FAQ
-
Yes. Previous mountain or hiking experience is not mandatory to join a guided Mount Pico climb, but good physical fitness, coordination and comfort on steep, uneven terrain are important.
For first-time mountain hikers, Tripix Azores generally recommends the Mount Pico Day Climb as the most suitable format for a first experience on the mountain.
If you are unsure whether the climb is suitable for your fitness level or previous experience, contact our team before booking. For more detailed information about difficulty, terrain and preparation, see our Mount Pico Climbing Guide.
-
Mount Pico can be climbed year-round, weather permitting. May to September generally offers more favourable conditions and longer daylight hours, although mountain weather in the Azores can change quickly and suitable conditions are never guaranteed.
This is also the busiest period of the year, so we recommend booking your guided climb well in advance and, whenever possible, keeping some flexibility in your itinerary in case weather conditions require a change of date.
Tripix Azores operates Mount Pico climbs throughout the year. Outside the main season, conditions can be more variable, but the mountain is generally quieter and offers a very different experience.
For more information about seasonal conditions, preparation and choosing the right climb, see our Mount Pico Climbing Guide.

-
Yes. Solo travellers are welcome to join Tripix Azores activities.
Our activities have minimum participant requirements, which vary depending on the experience. If the minimum number of participants has not yet been reached for your chosen activity and date, a Solo Traveler Fee may apply to allow the booking to proceed.
If additional participants subsequently join and the required minimum is reached, the additional fee will be refunded.
If you are travelling alone, contact our team to check the options available for your preferred activity and date.
-
Tripix Azores operates year-round; however, depending on the time of year, there may be limited availability from certain local producers or museums. Please note that museums are closed on Mondays throughout the year. Wine tastings are also unavailable on Sundays and public holidays during the peak season (June to September), and closed on weekends and holidays during the low season (October to May). We make every effort to schedule tours that include these visits on alternative dates.
During the low season, Tripix Azores — like many tour operators — scales back its operations. Weekend tours will only run with a minimum of four participants. If fewer than four people register, the tour will not proceed as scheduled. In this case, you may choose to reschedule or upgrade to a private tour so that the activity can take place.
All activities are subject to weather conditions.
-
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially between May and September, when demand for Mount Pico climbs and other activities is highest.
Availability can vary depending on the date, activity and chosen Mount Pico experience — Day, Night, Sunset or Overnight — so booking in advance gives you the best chance of securing your preferred option.
Last-minute bookings may still be possible, subject to availability. If your preferred date is approaching, contact our team to check the available options.
-
Participants should be in good physical condition, have good coordination and be comfortable walking for several hours on steep, uneven mountain terrain.
Before booking, please inform Tripix Azores of any medical condition, recent injury or surgery, mobility restriction, respiratory or cardiovascular condition, diabetes, pregnancy, significant fear of heights, or any other physical or health circumstance that could affect your ability to participate safely.
Participants aged 65 or over may be asked to provide additional medical confirmation of their suitability for the activity.
For safety reasons, participants should also avoid undertaking a Mount Pico climb shortly after scuba diving. Tripix Azores currently requires at least 24 hours between diving and the climb.
If you are unsure whether the activity is suitable for you, please contact our team before booking. For more information about the physical demands, terrain and preparation involved, see our Mount Pico Climbing Guide.
-
You should bring suitable mountain footwear, comfortable outdoor clothing with layers for changing weather conditions, weather protection, and enough food and water for the duration of your Mount Pico climb.
Specific requirements may vary depending on the type of climb and expected mountain conditions. Tripix Azores provides certain technical or activity-specific equipment when included in your chosen experience.
Before your climb, you will receive detailed information about what to bring and what is provided. Please follow these requirements carefully, as suitable equipment is essential for safety and participation.
For a broader overview of preparation for the mountain, see our Mount Pico Climbing Guide.
-
Tripix Azores may cancel an activity whenever weather or environmental conditions could compromise participants’ safety.
If an activity is canceled, our team will assess the available alternatives, which may include rescheduling or applying the amount paid to another activity, subject to availability.
During the peak season, particularly from May to September, availability can be limited and an alternative date cannot always be guaranteed.
If you prefer a refund, it will be processed in accordance with the applicable cancellation policy.
-
Yes. The required details for each participant must be submitted in advance for a Mount Pico climb, as they are necessary to complete the booking and registration process at Mountain House (Casa da Montanha).
Please provide the requested information within the indicated timeframe. If the required participant details are not submitted in time, Tripix Azores cannot guarantee registration for the climb.
Failure to provide the required information may prevent participation and, where applicable, the booking will be subject to the corresponding cancellation and refund conditions.
-
Participants should be in good physical condition, have good coordination and feel comfortable in outdoor environments and on uneven terrain.
Some activities also have specific requirements. For example, participants in SUP activities must know how to swim, while caving activities are not suitable for people with claustrophobia.
Please inform Tripix Azores before booking of any medical condition, physical limitation, recent injury or other circumstance that could affect your ability to participate safely.
Depending on the activity and individual circumstances, additional confirmation of fitness or medical suitability may be requested.
-
If you are unable to continue the Mount Pico climb, your guide will assess the situation with safety as the priority.
Mount Pico is a physically demanding mountain activity, and reaching the summit is never guaranteed. If a participant is unable to continue safely, or if the certified guide determines that continuing could compromise the participant or the group, it may be necessary to stop the climb.
Any withdrawal or interruption related to a participant’s physical condition or voluntary decision is subject to the applicable booking and cancellation conditions.
For more information about the physical demands of the climb and how to prepare, see our Mount Pico Climbing Guide.

Climbing Mount Pico with a certified local mountain guide adds experience, local knowledge and professional support to a demanding mountain activity.
Tripix Azores guides know the terrain, the typical mountain conditions and the practical challenges of the climb. They help manage the pace of the group, provide guidance throughout the route and make safety-related decisions when conditions or individual circumstances change.
A guided climb also gives participants a deeper understanding of Mount Pico, its landscape and natural environment, while helping ensure that the mountain is experienced responsibly.
Tripix Azores has been operating on Pico Island since 2015 and has guided more than 10,000 participants on Mount Pico.
For more detailed information about the mountain, preparation and the different climb formats, see our Mount Pico Climbing Guide.

At the moment, Tripix Azores does not offer equipment rental. This includes hiking and mountain equipment such as hiking boots, clothing or crampons.
Equipment rental is still relatively uncommon on Pico Island, so we recommend bringing the personal equipment required for your activity.
For Mount Pico climbs, Tripix provides specific equipment associated with the guided activity when applicable. Please check the information provided for your chosen experience to see what is included and what you are required to bring.
-
Ferry connections between the islands of Pico, Faial and São Jorge vary throughout the year, with more frequent services generally available during the summer months and more limited schedules during the low season.
If you are staying on a different island from where your Tripix activity takes place, the feasibility and schedule of the tour may therefore depend on the ferry connections available on your chosen date.
We recommend checking the current ferry schedules before booking and allowing sufficient time for the journey. Our team can also help you assess the available connections when organising your activity.
Ferry tickets are not included in the activity price unless specifically stated otherwise and may be arranged upon prior request, subject to availability and additional cost.
